What do Standard DBS checks show?

Not to be confused with basic DBS checks ,   standard DBS checks show any spent and/or unspent convictions and any cautions, reprimands and/or final warnings the applicant may have within the United Kingdom. This information is obtained by the Disclosure & Barring Service directly from the Police National Computer.

What can it be used for?

A standard check is only available for positions that are included in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Please refer to the Disclosure & Barring Services eligibility guidance here

Standard DBS checks can only be applied for through an employer or organisation, unfortunately individuals cannot apply for a standard DBS check on themselves.

Disclosure and Barring Service

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) was launched in March 2002, due to public concern about the safety of children, youths and defenseless adults. On 1st December 2012, the CRB and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged to form the Disclosure and Barring Service. The DBS is an executive non-departmental public body of the Home Office and helps employers make suitable recruitment decisions.

APCS is a registered body with the DBS who carry out basic,  standard and enhanced checks.
